    1. I couldn t put this down Good read great story arc Love the shout out to Pamela Des Barres, among other 80s culture icons I highly recommend this debut novel and expect great things of Rose Mambert.

Maybe the rating should be closer to 3 1 2 than four stars, as Mambert s short 212 pages novel suffers from a number of structural problems, the worst of which being following too many characters before finally deciding whose story to tell, and not introducing either of the two major antagonists to the band of vampires until halfway through the book Still, her vision of life well, unlife as a member of a famous rock band that also happens to be made up of four bloodthirsty vampires was compellin [...]

I finished reading this the other day, and it is far from the standard take on vampires Certainly, they aren t sparkly, or nice, or any of the other current cliches They are dangerous and gory, so this probably isn t one to suggest to the average Twilight loving tween.Probably the closest thing in terms of tone are Anne Rice s various Lestat books There s that mix of sex, drugs and rock and roll, but there s also a different emphasis here The Muses comes across to me as being partly about reinve [...]
